This season, REWIND: The Shenson Retrospective Film Series turns its gaze to "Creation" and the creative process. How do filmmakers visualize their own art forms – as well as the art forms of others? How does film serve to illuminate creative expression, and how does this external medium approach the inner life of the artist? In this installment, we'll be discussing AMERICAN SPLENDOR (2003), the biopic of the pathbreaking alternative comics creator Harvey Pekar (Paul Giamatti) with Mattie Lubchansky, writer-artist of the recent graphic novel Boys Weekend, and former associate-editor of the deeply-missed graphic magazine, The Nib. We'll also be discussing Frank Tashlin's ARTISTS AND MODELS as a forerunner of sorts to "American Splendor," and as an example of how a Jewish actor (Jerry Lewis) can crash the creative scene.

This discussion will be moderated by Dr. Eitan Kensky, the Reinhard Family Curator of Hebraica and Judaica at Stanford Libraries and the founder of REWIND.
