Careers in Washington, DC

Stanford undergraduate and graduate students are invited to meet with Stanford alumni who studied international relations and area studies and now work in Washington, DC. These three professionals will discuss how their academic backgrounds are relevant to their current work and provide tips on how to pursue a career in the U.S. Capitol. This workshop is part of a series of career development workshops hosted by the Stanford Global Studies Division. 

Michael Chaitkin, International Relations, ’09, is a Senior Program Officer in the health practice at Results for Development (R4D), supporting governments in low- and middle-income countries to undertake ambitious reforms to health financing, policy and systems in pursuit of universal health coverage. 

Jessica Batke, M.A. East Asian Studies, ’08, is a senior editor at ChinaFile, which covers Chinese politics and policy.  She is an expert on China’s domestic political and social affairs, having served as the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research Analyst for the past 7 years.  

Jacob Parsley, M.A. Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies, ’14, works in the NASA Office of International and Interagency Relations, where he supports NASA’s Science Mission Directorate. He covers a diverse portfolio that includes Russia, Korea, Latin America, and NASA’s Heliophysics Division.
