Cate Greenman

Cate Greenman (she/her) is a senior majoring in International Relations with specializations in Social Development & Human Well-being and Middle East & Central Asia. She is also pursuing a minor in History, with a concentration in Migration, Displacement, and Diaspora. She spoke with us about her research interests, favorite IR class, internship experience, and what she enjoys outside of the classroom.

What are your primary research interests?

My primary research interests are in post-conflict reconciliation and transitional justice. I also have a long-standing interest in migration and refugee crises, in particular examining local attitudes towards refugee populations. I am currently a research assistant at the King Center on Global Development, where I work on examining local and governmental attitudes towards refugee populations in Kenya. 

What is your favorite IR class so far and why?

My favorite IR course I have taken in my time at Stanford is POLISCI 247G: Governance and Poverty or INTNLREL103F: Introduction to Modern Military History. Both classes allowed me to explore topics I previously hadn’t and allowed me to connect many of my research interests to my broader IR education at Stanford. 

Can you tell us a bit about a recent internship/study abroad experience?

Last summer I had the opportunity to work in Doha, Qatar at the Middle East Council on Global Affairs through Stanford in Government. It was such a memorable experience getting to work at an organization at the forefront of addressing humanitarian and diplomatic issues in the Gulf and broader MENA region, and reinforced my interest in pursuing other think tank work in the future. 

Any hobbies or outside interests?

I love reading, listening to music, and trying new restaurants!
