Angelina Rivas

Angelina Rivas (she/her) is an IR honors student with specializations in Social Development & Human Well-Being and International History & Culture. She is also pursuing a Sociology Coterm. She spoke with us about her research interests, favorite IR class, study abroad, and what she enjoys outside of the classroom.

What are your primary research interests?

My primary research interests are transitional justice, human rights, and urban policy. 

What is your favorite IR class so far and why?

My favorite IR class so far was INTNLREL 141A: Human Rights Documentary Film. Many of the films we watched, and information we learned stuck with me throughout the rest of my course at Stanford. Also, I was able to get involved with the United Nations Film Festival through the course's teaching instructor, which was another great experience. 

Can you tell us a bit about a recent internship/study abroad experience?

Last summer (2025) I volunteered and studied abroad in Amman, Jordan. It was one of my favorite experiences as I was able to forge lasting friendships as well as gain firsthand experience working with an NGO. I was an English teacher for adult and children refugees through the Collateral Repair Project. The experience was very transformative and opened my eyes to several perspectives from across the world. 

Any hobbies or outside interests?

I love taking photos of landscapes or friends! I also enjoy going on hikes and walks -- anywhere where I can reconnect with nature and ground myself.
