Dr. Tara Shirvani currently works on large-scale infrastructure investment projects for the World Bank Group with a focus on urban transport and road construction as well as low-carbon energy projects in Middle East North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to joining the World Bank she was based in the Middle East working with the United Nations in Iran on flare gas recovery, gas shipping and LNG development. She has strengthened her practical understanding for international commodities markets after working for investment banks such as Citigroup and Deutsche Bank. Dr. Shirvani, an Austrian and Iranian national, is an engineer by training and has earned her Ph.D. in Fuel and Vehicle Technologies from the University of Oxford and her Master’s degree in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the University of Cambridge. Dr. Shirvani has several featured articles in Foreign Affairs, The Economist, The Times of London, New Statesman and Harvard International Review on a variety of topics ranging from low-carbon energy to geopolitics of natural gas trade and climate change. 

Dr. Shirvani collaborates with the Stanford Iran 2040 Project in areas related to Iran's energy sector.
