Mario Luna Romero is the Traditional Government's Secretary of the indigenous village of Vicam, Sonora, Mexico. He is a community organizer who was commissioned by the Yaqui tribe to protect the water of the Yaqui River against a goverment sponsored aqueduct.
On September 11, 2014, Luna Romero was jailed and set free one year and ten days later, as there was no proof of culpablity for any of the charges against him. He has since participated in the United Nations' Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues exposing and highlighting the current situation of Mexico's indigenous peoples.
Luna Romero is a delegate of Mexico's Indigenous National Congress (CNI, for its initials in Spanish) since 2007, representing the Yaqui people of Vicam, and is a council member of the recently formed Mexico's Indigenous Governing Council (CIG, for its initials in Spanish). He is Coordinator of the International Affairs of the CNI-CIG.

Mario Luna Romero es el Secretario del Gobierno Tradicional de Vicam, comunidad indígena yaqui en Sonora, México. Él es un activista que fue comisionado por la tribu Yaqui para proteger el agua del río Yaqui contra el acueducto "Independencia', un mega-proyecto patrocinado por el gobierno mexicano.
El 11 de septiembre de 2014, Luna Romero fue encarcelado y puesto en libertad un año y diez días después, ya que no había pruebas de culpabilidad por ninguno de los cargos en su contra. Desde entonces, ha participado en el Foro Permanente para las Cuestiones Indígenas de las Naciones Unidas exponiendo y destacando la situación actual de los pueblos indígenas de México.
Luna Romero es delegado del Congreso Nacional Indígena de México (CNI) desde el 2007, representando al pueblo yaqui de Vicam, y es concejal del Concejo Indígena de Gobierno de México (CIG). Mario Luna también funge como Coordinador de Asuntos Internacionales de CNI-CIG.
